Somatic Experiencing
EVERY NERVOUS SYSTEM HAS A STORY JUST WAITING TO BE TOLD.
Somatic Experiencing is a modality for healing trauma and supporting nervous system health.
Somatic Experiencing is a modality based on Dr. Peter Levine’s multidisciplinary study of stress physiology. By integrating ethology, neuroscience, psychology, and indigenous health healing practices, Somatic Experiencing provides a foundation for understanding the neurobiological processes of the threat response system.
A practitioner of SE helps to facilitate change in the autonomic nervous system through the completion of self-protective motor responses and the release of thwarted survival energy bound in the body. Within the SE model, clients are guided through the sensory process system to develop tolerance for increased body sensations and suppressed emotions.
A Somatic Experiencing practitioner will use verbal and non-verbal methods to modulate regulation, facilitate somatic engagement, and invite awareness of the internal experience.
